The Alfred Almond Bible Church was started in 1975 when Pastor Dan Kenyon, affiliated with the American Mission for Opening Churches, had a burden for those in the Alfred Almond area. Pastor Kenyon started meeting with the Alfred and the Almond Bible Study Groups. After much prayer and consideration, seven families voted “yes” to starting a new church.
In January 1976, the first service was held in the home of Bob and Barb Baker in Alfred. Very soon the group became too large, and the meetings were moved to the Almond Grange. In 1977, God opened the opportunity to purchase 8.6 acres of land to be used for a future building. Groundbreaking for the project began on May 4, 1978. Less than a year later, in April 1979, the congregation was able to meet in the basement of the new building, which had been built by the volunteers from the church. In September 1980, they had completed the upstairs, and the first service was held in the new sanctuary.
Throughout the next several years, God enabled the church to grow and expand. In May of 1981, the finished building was dedicated.
From its beginning, God’s hand has been at work in growing and maturing the Alfred Almond Bible Church. We are excited with what the Lord has been doing here at our church. From the refreshing, inspirational worship service on Sunday morning, to our stimulating programs for the whole family, we can see the hand of God at work.
Our church has been built on faith, and through the years we have continued to operate on faith. Our church service is unique in that we do not “pass the plate” during our services, but God has always faithfully provided funds through His people. In this and many other examples, He has shown that He is the one guiding this ministry.
Maybe this would be the place that God has for you.
