Understanding the Old Testament requires hard work. It's more difficult for Christians to understand the Old Testament than it is for us to understand the New Testament. But the Spirit has provided these books for us as part of God's unified message to us, and God still speaks through those books. Following up on our video from Monday this week, let's unpack an approach to the Old Testament that takes it seriously as God's Word, and let's learn to resist shortcuts that inevitably lead us away from understanding the message God has communicated. As always in our Bible reading, our first pursuit should be to grasp God's message to the original audience; then, with the Old Testament, we have the foundation for what God says to us as Christians today.
